OBJECT OF THE GAME
The main goal of Baseball Mogul is
to have fun. You can do this by playing ten seasons in one night,
or by simming one day at a time and micromanaging your team. Along
the way, you will be given a Mogul Rating; although you must successfully
juggle the financial aspects of your team in order to succeed, your
Mogul Rating is based entirely on your team's performance on the
field.
The Mogul
Rating
The Mogul Rating equals the percentage of
games that your team won plus a playoff bonus (up to +30.0, for a
team that is World Champion in every year). For example, a team that wins 63.3% of their games and wins the World Series every year would have a Mogul Rating of 93.3 (63.3 + 30.0).
Then, a "Mogul Rating Bonus" is added (or subtracted), according to the resources available to you. Teams with fewer resources (aka "small
market teams") get a bonus of up to +10.0. Large market teams are penalized, with the largest market suffering a penalty of -10.0. You can view each team's "Mogul Rating Bonus" on the Finances Page.
Finally, a penalty is applied if you retire
before playing ten (10) seasons. So, you must have more than a few good
years to earn an excellent Mogul Rating; you must build a successful dynasty
that is capable of supporting itself financially.
To see how you compare to historical baseball
managers, go the Mogul Hall Of Fame
screen (on the File Menu). An
average team will have a Mogul Rating of about 50. Any score above 75
is excellent. Earning the #1 spot on the "Mogul" Difficulty Level
is a rare achievement.
Note: For Mogul careers of 100 years or
more, only the most recent 99 seasons are used to calculate the Mogul
Rating.
