SIMULATION SETTINGS
This dialog box lets you adjust the results of your games (including both simulated games and those played in Play-By-Play mode).
By default, Baseball Mogul adjust the baseball engine to produce realistic results for each historical era. For example, you will see fewer home runs and more stolen bases before 1920 (in the "deadball era") than you will when playing in the 1990s.
All seasons past the current year (e.g. 2020) use the first part of the 21st century (2001-2010) as a statistical baseline.
Batting Results
As mentioned above, Baseball Mogul is written to create accurate historical results by default (that is, with these values set to 100). However, you can use this area to fine-tune your results.
Baserunning
Adjusts the frequency of certain events on the basepaths. For example, changing the setting for 'Double Plays' from '+0%' to '+50%' will increase the frequency of ground-ball double plays that occurs. Baseball Mogul adjusts the physics engine for each historical era (for example, the 1980s had more double plays than the 1910s, because field conditions and fielding gloves were better). However, you may wish to make additional adjustments.
| Infielders Get Lead Runner |
Frequency with which infielders can throw out the lead runner on a ground ball.* |
| Double Plays |
Frequency of ground ball double plays. |
| Stolen Bases |
Frequency of successful stolen bases. |
| Caught Stealing |
Frequency of unsuccessful stolen bases. |
| Successful Tag Up Attempts |
Frequency of runners successfully tagging up and advancing on fly balls and line drives to the outfield. |
| Unsuccessful Tag Up Attempts |
Frequency of runners tagging up and being thrown out on fly balls and line drives to the outfield. This will affect the number of double plays credited to outfielders. |
| Successful Extra Base Attempts |
Frequency of batters and runners successfully taking an extra base on hits to the outfield (such as stretching a double into a triple, or advancing from first to third on a single). |
| Unsuccessful Extra Base Attempts |
Frequency of batters and runners being thrown out by an outfielder on an attempt to take an extra base. This will affect the number of assists credited to outfielders. |
* Note that the setting for "Infielders Get Lead Runner" is not designed to be numerically accurate. That is, a '+50%' setting will increase the frequency more than a '+20%' setting, but will not necessarily increase it by exactly 50%.
Manager Play-Calling
Adjusts the frequency of specific plays as called by the computer manager in Baseball Mogul. This will have no effect on the success of plays when called by human-managed teams.
Pitch-By-Pitch Mode
Player Mode (aka Pitch-By-Pitch Mode) on the Play-By-Play Screen lets the user choose and guess pitches. Depending on the strategies employed, this can affect the overall statistical results. These settings let you adjust Pitch-By-Pitch Mode to better fit your play style (only games played in Pitch-By-Pitch Mode are affected)
- Pitcher Control: Adjusts the ability of all pitchers to hit the spots they aim for (i.e. "paint the corners")
- Batting Average: Adjusts the ability to hit line drives.
- Batting Power: Adjusts the ability to hit the ball hard, especially for home runs.
- Strikeouts: Adjusts the batter's ability to make contact and put the ball in play.
