AMATEUR DRAFT
The Amateur Draft item on the Players Menu is only available during the off-season (between the beginning of the Free Agent Period and Draft Day).
OVERVIEW
At the beginning of each year's Free Agent Period (after the World Series has ended and contracts have expired), all amateur players declare their eligibility for the Amateur Draft. The Amateur Draft occurs during the first half of June.
Before Draft Day, you can use the Amateur Draft Dialog to view all available amateur players. Like the Roster Dialog, the Amateur Draft Dialog lets you sort players by over 100 different stats. Click the top of any stat column to sort by that stats. Click the "Choose Column Headers" button to change the stats displayed.
DRAFTING PLAYERS
When Draft Day comes, teams will draft players in reverse order of their finish in the Standings. For example, if your team won the World Series in the previous season, you will have the last pick in each round of the Amateur Draft.
To draft a player, select the player and click the "Draft" button in the upper right corner of the dialog box.
The Amateur Draft lasts 6 rounds. If at any point you would like the computer to finish the draft for you, choose "Finish Amateur Draft" from the Play Menu.
Major League Baseball does not permit the trading of draft picks.
PLAYER POOL
By default, Baseball Mogul will load historical players from the player database for the year being simulated. For example, the 1982 Amateur Draft will contain players that turned 18 in 1982.
If there is no data for historical players (for example, if you are simulating the 2012 season), then Baseball Mogul will generate fictional players to fill the Amateur Draft player pool.
If there are not enough historical players to fill the draft pool (for example, in 2008) Baseball Mogul will give you the option to fill the remainder of the draft pool with fictional players.
The use of Historical Players and/or Fictional Players to fill the Amateur Draft player pool can be adjusted at any time in the League Editor.
