RUNNING A LEAGUE

OVERVIEW
"Running a Baseball Mogul League" refers to the process of playing a game of Baseball Mogul on your computer while other people (usually from all over the Internet) control other teams in your Baseball Mogul Universe. It generally works like this:

  1. Players send your their "orders" (such as lineup changes, or trades they have made).
  2. You enter these orders into Baseball Mogul.
    • To save time, you can send you team files instead.
  3. You simulate a certain number of days.
  4. You e-mail the new Baseball Mogul saved game file to the other team owners.
  5. (Optional) You maintain a web site with updated standings, transactions and the like.
    • "Output Encyclopedia" on the History Menu is a useful tool for this task.

All Baseball Mogul games start as a single-person game. To add more players, go to the League Editor and click on the radio button opposite the one labeled "Computer". Then type the player's name in the empty edit box to assign the team to a human player.

DRAFT LEAGUES
One way to run a league is to let every player involved take turns choosing which players they wish to have on their team. There are a number of ways of deciding which players end up on which teams. This type of league can be conducted using the Fantasy Draft feature.

If you wish to conduct a draft away from the computer (or use a different format, such as an auction), you can use the Output Rosters and Input Rosters features on the Advanced Options Dialog to move players more easily between teams.

If you wish to put every team on an equal financial footing, you will wish to check the "Equalize Cities" check box in the New Game Dialog.

OUTPUT TEAM TEXT
Running a league requires that you collect and enter orders from team owners on a regular basis. Whenever there is more than one human-controlled team, the Output Team Text feature becomes available on the League Menu. Choosing this menu item will automatically create a text file summarizing the current team's data (such as lineup order, pitching rotation and strategy setting). The team owner can then e-mail this file to the Commissioner to ensure that the team information is updated correctly.

SHARING LEAGUE FILES
Unless you are maintaining a detailed league web site, the best way to let your players know about league results is to simply e-mail them the saved game file. They will need a current version of Baseball Mogul in order to read the file; if they don't want to buy the full version, they can download the free demo version.

COMMISSIONER PASSWORDS
However, if you just send your current league file to your players, the team owners will be able to turn on Commissioner Mode and use it to learn information about the league that they shouldn't have access to (such as the true ratings of all the players in the game universe).

To prevent players from viewing hidden data, use the League Editor to enter a Commissioner Password. Then, use League Options to turn off Commissioner Mode. Save this game and send the file to the team owners. They will be unable to access Commissioner Mode without using the password.
